Had these at Sacred Craft. The fin on the Jaws is a prototype 101 bamboo flexfin.

Foil, about 2.25 thick, super thin tail, these fins came out sooo nice they weigh almost nothing and flex unreal, more later on these, BIG THANX to Marlin at 101.

OLD BUT NEW 2

Brian and I have talked about this one for awhile, influenced by the film The Hot Generation and surfing of Ted Spencer and Nat Young. This era went by so fast its fun to redo these designs but with better rockers, foils and fins, this one is a Putnam/Hilbers 8'4'' lots of hip in the back and a nice straight spot on the trim sweet spot

Better foil than the old ones thinner tail and S-deck

Velo- influenced tail. Think wipit like Ted off that tail curve and step up to sweet spot and burn.

This little beast is a Fineline model of Brians , a Zombie 8'0'' like the early V-bottoms, but with better rocker and foil, this stuff should be at Sacred Craft show

P-38 demo in the North County woods...

Just a quick note, with no eye candy...
I just dropped off an arctail, 5'8, P-38 at Mitch's in Solana Beach as a general rider/demo. I dropped off a number of sellers, also, including a 7'0 Finequero, a couple of GeeBees, a Dirty Sanchez P-38,
as well as a board I'm riding myself: a hulled quadfish- quad hull? No, I think a hulled QF is a better description, even if it's a roundtail, and not a fishtail. Sorry, my personal 5'11 already got borrowed, so, again, no eye candy. Check out Shelter's site- I customed one for Josh with those guys' input, and I think it's posted.
I've gotten so much: "Where can I try one?", about the P-38; here's a southern answer. A northern answer would be to contact Mike Adams at Val Surf in humble, inland NoHo, Ca.; he has a 5'7 that we
agreed could possibly go elsewhere, although you have to negotiate with him, not me. H3K.

Marlin and 101 Fins Rule!

Fins, as a rule, get seriously taken for granted. Hull goons, among others, have always paid attention- shape, flex, placement. In the on-going tune of the P-38, and its morphing side project, the Dirty Sanchez, I've been looking at fins to complete the tune of these sleds. On hearing that some slide was happening on some P-38s, I looked at lack of flex as a possible answer. In a long phone jive with Marlin at 101 Fin Co., he helped me sort out some issues, suggested other solutions, and generally expressed an interest in what was going on with my boards that normally only I and the owner would be expected to have. Combined with a touchy-feely session at last May's Sacred Craft show, my concepts of flex foiling combined with
some great template ideas from Marlin to produce some fins I'm really jazzed about. The above is
a DU fin, modded over the phone, for the Dirty Sanchez. Higher, tighter, way more flex.
These suckers will give the D.S. both more fish pivot
as well as more hull spring and drive.
On the arctailed, true blue P-38, I'd initially foiled my own fins from a birchply/fiberglass laminate. These rocked on my board, and on others. Marlin came up with a mod that virtually
imitates how my birchply fins behave.

It's amazing how much more flex and punch we can put into a fin with a seedy extra quarter inch, but that's what's going down, and it's all on Marlin. Thanks, Dude!

Check out this yellowfin nugget. I'm seeing a personal parabolic in this fin's future. The flex is immaculate.

Some Fun New Crap From The Room

I'm calling this the SYT. It's a Quigg hotcurl template, hulled and foiled into
a mini carver and glider. It should have plenty of both, so it's set up with a real comfy rocker. Think small longboard, rather than big hull. This one is 8'6, 16 1/2 x 21 5/8 x 16, 2 7/8 thick. A bit o' spoon, and a softer hull rail for ease of steering and a more neutral feel.

A 9'4 SOS. This one is Brooklyn bound.


A skinnier Dirty Sanchez. Ramped hull to concave tail, a bit more pivotal tail rail to coordinate with the twin fin. 5'9, 18 1/4 x 22 x 18. I know the hull part works; this guy carries a bit more curve into the tail
to give it a bit fishier aspect. No rocker mods- if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

9'4'' SOS-PHD

This ones a is a copy of my best longboard ever, its got a sweet spot about foot and a half back from the nose , when you hit that spot you better get ready, it will just take off without you, Very true to Nat Youngs 66 Gordon/Woods world contest board, Sam, but just tweeked here and there where Brian and I thought we could improve it, PROPS to Yater, Liddle and Paul Gross for the refining of this design over the years .

Cornwall Calling- Hulls from the wrong side of the tracks

The Canaries totally remind me of southern Baja- just as Portugal reminds me of north Baja.


And Cornwall reminds me of here, during the spring.
But that doesn't keep this from being a fine, swoopy carving turn.

My bud Alex lives in Devon, Cornwall; he got bit by the Humm Bug around a year and a half ago.
These guys evade the stormy winter blues with trips to the Canaries- apparently worthwhile, as the photos show. But back at home and back in the wetties, it looks like the Humm is still there. Hey, Alex- what fin did you put in you Geebee after the first one snapped? Geebee in the gloom, MP in the glory.

7'0'' Vee Bee , Cry Baby

Brian and I have been workin on this for awhile , its Baby surfboard inspired , a board Greenough shaped in 1965 out of balsa , nose kick added by Mctavish later , ridin by guys that surfed with George, Nat, Bob M. Russel Hughes and many others . Its fun to bring shapes like this back and add tweeks here and there to see if we can come up with something FUN!!
